WA: WA Premier stands firm on uranium mining ban

West Australian Premier ALAN CARPENTER is standing firm on his government's opposition
to uranium mining .. despite federal government moves to sell uranium to China.

He says the issue of uranium wasn't raised when he met Chinese Premier WEN JIABAO today.

Mr CARPENTER says his government opposes uranium mining because of concerns about safety
.. and disposal of waste.





Premier WEN is expected to sign an agreement with the federal government in the next
few days .. opening the way for Australia to supply uranium to China's nuclear power industry.
