Tas: Beazley calls for mini-budget

Opposition leader KIM BEAZLEY says Australia needs to cut wasteful spending and invest
in skills .. infrastructure and participation.

The Labor leader has called for the government to issue a mini-budget to address inflationary
pressures and place downward pressure on interest rates.

Mr BEAZLEY'S call follows last week's interest rate rise .. the third since JOHN HOWARD
promised to keep them at record lows.

The Labor leader says the government is spending billions of dollars on self-promotion
.. a war in Iraq and consultants to create its industrial relations reform.

Mr BEAZLEY says the government cannot afford to wait for inflationary pressures to abate.

And .. Mr BEAZLEY wants the government to give more petrol price monitoring power to
the ACCC consumer watchdog.
